Euro NCAP's Top 5 Safest Cars Of 2010

Euro NCAP recently unveiled its top five safest cars of 2010. To be selected as safest cars of their respective categories, these vehicles had to achieve a high overall score and attain the coveted five-star NCAP rating.
Last year alone, Euro NCAP crash tested 29 vehicles, 65 per cent of which reached the five-star rating, compared to 90 per cent in 2009.
The decrease of 25 per cent is due do Euro NCAP’s new stricter criteria to reach five star rating.
Top achievers by category were:
• Executive category: BMW 5 Series
• Small Family category: Alfa Romeo Giulietta
• Supermini category: Honda CR-Z
• Small off-road 4x4 category: Kia Sportage
• Small MPV category: Toyota Verso
In addition to the top five achievers, the Suzuki Swift, Kia Venga, BMW X1, VW Sharan/ Seat Alhambra, and Citroen C4 all exceeded the 80 per cent mark in overall score, putting them on the list of best performing cars of 2010.
